Righteousness, What Is It? A Confucian View on Why Being Who You Truly Are Is the Right Thing to Do

Mencius coined the term jen-i (humanity-righteousness), which has become recognized as the essence of Confucianism. He did so to use I, righteousness, as a bridge between the inside and outside of mind, between humanity and propriety. One of the most impressive and effective characteristics Mencius’ philosophy is its capacity to show morality, or righteousness, as a faculty, an ability, of humanity.

Prejudice That Goes Unrecognized

Prejudice is the sunburn on the backs of America’s social flesh. Younger folk don’t like the ways of the older folk and oftentimes meet them with disdain or disgust. The ‘haves’ don’t like the ‘have-nots’ and look down with disgust wondering why they haven’t bettered themselves by now.

Some teachers tell us that the meaning of life is to learn; that the earth is a school of some sort and we have to pay attention to the lessons that come to us. Others say that we’re here strictly to experience; that we already know everything but we are here to encounter those things experientially. Most agree however that growth, in whatever form, is a central tenet to the purpose of life.

Japanese Ascended Masters

Over the centuries many of these Ascended Masters have been awarded the title of gods and goddesses, and their origins have been lost in myth. The Egyptian gods and goddesses are a good example of this. The less well known are the Japanese Ascended Masters. They are known more for their place as Shinto deities. The Japanese royal family is believed to have descended from these gods, namely Amaterasu, goddess of the sun. Amaterasu, goddess of the sun has two brothers, Tsukuyomi, god of the moon and Susan’oo, god of the summer storm.
