CONSCIOUS contact with God, together with the will that obeys His voice, is the process of being led by the Spirit. I had it happen to me very recently in visiting a shopping precinct. I felt God’s hand lead me out of one store and into another. Was it for any discernible ‘faith’ reason? No. I just got the sense from the aimlessness I was experiencing in the first store to leave it, without hesitation, and continue walking in tune with the Spirit. For me, being led by the Spirit is decisiveness. That decision was not mine; it appeared to be mine, but Someone Else was in control; a subtle yet significant difference.

I discuss my lowest moments, and how I began to breathe again. I find a place to discuss how I even stopped breathing, how I entered depression, and when I stopped breathing. I revisit my past and I enter my future.

SAMUEL Rutherford (1600 – 1661) delivers two concepts entwined in one, regarding God’s immediate answer to our prayer. One is the provision of peace, a soul-kind-of-knowing without understanding, and the other is the provision of patience, which is faith enough to wait as long as required for the promise to be delivered. Both patience and peace are attainments.

Time is continuous, it never ends. There is no beginning or end, time is a continuous cycle that exists on different planes or levels of existence. I often compare the different periods of times to a radio, when we listen to a radio, to find different radio stations and different forms of music and entertainment, we turn the dial, or these days, we push scan. By doing this, we are able to dial in the station and type of music we desire. In life we do the same. To live the life our soul desires, we dial in the plane of existence and reality that will give us the life experiences we desire to grow and learn the lessons we come to earth to experience.

FOLLOWING a woman out of the shopping mall and entering a pedestrian crossing behind her I hear her say, “thanks for stopping, buddy!” A person had just passed over the crossing and should have stopped, but didn’t.

Spiritually sensitive individuals and, or those who are actively involved in self-realization and personal growth and search for the meaning of life are mystics. You don’t have to be a member of a secret brotherhood, live in a mountaintop monastery, or shun all material possessions and wear a long white beard to be a mystic.

So a science is evolving. The science of not becoming the mind. It is not by neglecting the mind. Nor by suppressing the mind. Nor by diverting attention from the mind. But by creating a “distance” between you and your mind. Developing that ability is the crux of techniques advocated by inner engineering. Has modern psychology ever thought of this possibility of creating the distance?

What we are able to see isn’t simply about our physical sight. There’s a heart-based piece to it, and, in a very fundamental way, what we are able to see defines what we learn and what we are able to do.

Most of us are familiar with the song by Elvis Presley “Are You Lonesome Tonight”. Although this is a love song, I have titled this article the same as that song to prepare you for what I am going to write about. I want to reach out this season to many who are lonesome tonight… and every night of this holiday season… with encouragement and hope.
