The word Sustenance is synonymous to Maintenance. Maintenance is the act of upholding, preservation in order to make something to continue to exist; to make something to continue to exist. The Cost and Price of maintaining a possession is always far greater than the Cost of Obtaining it.

The most profound philosophers, and learned theologians have constantly fallen into the error of identifying their verbal constructions (verbalism) with facts, or into the yet even more enormous error of imagining that words (symbols) are somehow more real than what they stand for or are suppose to represent. Get this, that the world’s very best cook book is not even a substitute for even the world’s worst cooked meal.

If you’ve coached with me before, you’ve probably heard me talk about the metaphor of sticks and birds. In the practice of Creating Your Life (deliberate creation, manifesting, whatever you want to call it), most people go through a period when they have a ton of near misses. You intend for more money and find out you’re getting an unexpected check for $1000, only to have your car break down and require a $1001 repair. Or you intend for more clients and 3 new ones call to sign up, only to cancel or change their mind before the first session.

This world can be a lonely place if you do not have God in it. Just recently, I bowed before the Lord, ashamed and unclean. My life was full of hardships, pain, anger, corruption…you name it.

Of all allusions to growth of the spiritual life, perhaps it’s weeding the garden which is most of all poignant. I must admit that I’m not a keen gardener, so when my wife ‘invited’ me to join her to do an hour or two of weeding recently I reticently agreed and got into gardening mode. But it wasn’t long before God started talking to me.

Our actions in the spiritual world can often be misguided by our own imagination and worldly wisdom. This makes it imperative to seek confirmation from the Lord before we act. In doing so we strengthen our faith and belief in our actions and ensure that we are working with God.

God it is that oversees us and passes continually over us. God sees all, and not just the things we’d hope God wouldn’t see. For every injustice we’re on the receiving end of, God sees, and God commends us in our repose of humility.

Hope is the very objective life. Where we have it all the resources of life are otherwise available. Where we don’t have it, we struggle for the meaning and purpose of even simply breathing. It is our heavenly contingency.
