Understanding Our Spiritual Heritage – The Celts

Although our understanding of Christianity and organised faith in these early years is hazy and open to interpretation, we do have the evidence of some written work that is contemporary. Of all the classic writings that have been handed down to us one of the most important is the Confession of St. Patrick. This reveals a mind steeped in the Scriptures, affecting his every thought and action even to the mundane tasks of everyday life.

Genie’s Revenge

Some of the Buddha’s most lofty ideals can be illustrated in treasured cartoons of our childhood. Just as Daffy Duck grew to regret his attempt to stuff the genie back into it’s lamp, like wise you and I could also come to regret our foolish attempts to stuff and repress our sadness.

The Big Tom Tom Beat Of Desire

We all have desires for things that are just beyond our grasp. How do we know when it is all right to reach out and grab them?

Prayer can take many forms, and encompass the whole range of poetic and literary styles. It can be a cry for help or a cry of joy. It can be a single word or a symphony of prose.

Prayers – The Building Blocks

If we are going to be creative in our prayer time then I do not feel that there should be too many hard and fast rules about the format and content. We are all individuals with our own thoughts about style and content, and this ‘individuality ‘ can bring a freshness and vitality into a time spent talking and listening to God.

The Search For Inner Guidance

There was a time in my life when I was 100% in the “rat race.” It’s not something I’m proud of, but it does give me a very good perspective and a taste of what it’s like: Getting up every day at an hour that felt way too early, commuting more than an hour to a job that was marginally rewarding, struggling through a tedious day, stopping at the grocery store (after a long, traffic-riddled commute) to shop before coming home to an empty house, making dinner, cleaning the kitchen, watching whatever terrible show was on TV that night, then going to sleep, all so that I could do it all over again the very next day. This went on for quite a while before I realized there must be something more.

Surrender, Wander Not

Surrender does not mean that we have accepted/ submitted our defeat due to weakness or fear and knelt down to some one in repentance. On the contrary surrender means that we have accepted the protection of Lord, preceptor or an exalted soul in unflinching faith, reverence and without inquisitive mind for spiritual solace and strength. It is an antidote to many pitfalls of life.

Food For Our Spirituality – Eating In Ways That Fill Your Soul And Create Balance In Your Life

Do We Trust Only in the Things We See?

Trust…now that’s a word that is most difficult to get a grip off. Trust requires the utmost of faith and belief from the one who is giving it. People have a tendency to break our total trust when they swear they are loyal and will never hurt us and then will do just that. But so many times, because of our human depravity, we can’t stand up to being fully trusted or trusting someone else for that matter. We so often times will say, “I’ll trust you when you show me.” When it comes to other people, we have to see it. But God, demands that we trust Him even when we don’t see the blessings. How do we do this? It goes against our nature, but this is where our faith must lead us to trust in Him even when we can’t see a way out.
