No longer are we given to hurting people, or receiving others in hurtful ways – though we will continue to transgress. We’ll live a dichotomy. Seeing hurt, we’ll respond. The lord declares in this chapter that a person concentrating his mind on God, taking refuge and practicing yoga will be free from doubt and know him. The load promises Arjuna that he will impart knowledge together with realization (vijnana) knowing which, there will remain nothing more to be known. The lord says that among thousands of men, only 1% struggles for perfection and amongst that one %, only one% will be perfect and among them only one will know God or attain him.

Perhaps the biggest threat to the church is not Satan, but imbalance, for we’re all fond of taking our passionate spin on things, and there’s never been any shortage of churches and believers who’ve done this. Indeed, I’m sure Satan uses these passions of ours against the mission of God. Church balance is proposed and engendered when we get evangelism, edification, worship and social concern equivalently delivered.

When we hate someone, we will be quick to believe any negative thing we hear about that person. Often, common sense is thrown overboard in our zeal to feed our feelings of hatred. We want to justify our feelings  and when we hear something bad about the person, it provides just that.

There was once a farmer who extended uncommon hospitality towards a destitute stranger who passed by his farm looking for lodging. The young stranger soon became involved in life on the farm, helping out wherever he could and he was also wholly accepted as a member of the family. The farmer had three sons who were very close and loved and respected their father dearly.

Many psalms show divisions of thought where the psalmist perhaps commences with a lament, or alternatively a position of praise, before noting some of God’s qualities, then ending with a promise to trust. Psalm 129 is not like this at all.

He realised he was despised by his own people. He was not only a tax collector on behalf of their Roman oppressors, but he often extorted much more from them than was legally due. He wanted to live lavishly and this dishonest practice had become his source of feeding his love for the “good life”.
