Reinventing Your Life

It must’ve been heartrending for Jesus that many of his “disciples” turned away from him, choosing the way of the flesh in presentation of the Spirit (John 6:66). He was not torn for personal hurt but for the folly of their attitudes – the easy hard way of their choice, to go down intentionally to Sheol.

Once I had a little yard that was filled with weeds. I couldn’t find time in my day to weed the yard so it got worse and worse. One day without thinking, I bent down as I walked to the car and pulled a weed. On the way back into the house, I pulled a few more. Within a few weeks, my yard was free of weeds. One weed at a time made a difference.

What good is spiritual perception anyway? Does it pay the rent, heal disease, or stop loneliness? What good is it when the lights won’t come on since you haven’t had the money to pay the electric bill, or you are afraid that your child won’t recover from an illness, or the loneliness of the day is only exceeded by the loneliness of the night? What good is the spiritual perception statement, “Divine Love is my shepherd I shall not want” when all that appears during your daily life is “want”?

Once in a while it hits me. Life is simple, we make it complicated, and then I forget, and make it complicated again. But in those brief shining moments it is brilliantly evident that what we know and experience is all perception and that the answer to everything lies in this premise. The problem, of course, is not only do we forget this simple fact, but also that there are those whose desire is to manipulate or confuse us, and we forget that too.

Glancing out the window I looked a few yards further out than I normally do and realized, “Hey, I can see in the window of the Vet’s office.” It took me almost two years to notice this fact. I took a longer, wider view and saw something that had always been there. When options seem limited we most often look within the world that we know for an answer. The problem with that answer is it is part of the problem, which only compounds the problem. The only way out is to take in a longer, wider view. Look further out than what appears as the problem or situation and see what is already present for you.

We love to feed birds and watch their behavior, each one with their own uniqueness so evident when you really pay attention to them. Of course, the bird feeders attract squirrels. I’ve written about squirrels before. I had a squirrel friend who came into my living room every morning to share my morning meal of peanuts. Love them or not, there has to be admiration for their complete commitment and persistence.

God owns everything – there’s no surer truth. When we die we bequeath all our worldly possessions to our family, or those we entrust them to, but eventually any wealth is spread indivisibly. And this is not countering for divorce, bankruptcy etc which tend to work the very same way.

Church-goers are as blessed as ever, but at a recent service I attended I was reminded of the many blessings that modern convenience and our human nature has us perhaps taking for granted. This article features seven such blessings we enjoy every Sunday…

Some of us are in so much groaning pain regarding life and our situations we dearly cherish this thought above. The redemption of our bodies in death or rapture is keenly desired.

It seems such a basic premise of the Christian faith and yet we’re so apt at running far past it to our own perilous ends. It’s the activity of faithfulness to God in trust that’s coming into sharp focus here.

God sees the beauty inside each one of us, his precious vessels. If this were not true why would he forsake his Son for our redemption? Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
