Man is his own worst enemy. If a man performs an evil deed he knows that he has done wrong and may some day repent. But when man hides ulterior motives behind good deeds, the impurity of the intention clouds the heart quality of man like never ending layers of smoke on a window. Like the soot on the glass, after time, it becomes impossible to distinguish that the glass was once pure and clear. So with the heart, when contaminated with impure acts, the heart darkens and hardens until it can no longer distinguish a pure act from an impure one.
